Disorderly Drifters group

WELCOME! Ready to get a little Disorderly?

The Beginning

Like all good stories, ours begins with a case of beer, a bottle of vodka, and a fantastic group of friends. We are most easily described as outrageous fun and, of course, a little disorderly.

The five of us Disorderly Drifters (Cody Benson, Colter Giesick, Austy Dolezal, Travis Tescher, and me- Courtney Newton), originally planned to do the “Mongol Rally” put on by a group called The Adventurists.

We were getting a Tuk-Tuk (a.k.a. auto-rickshaw) in London and driving it 10,000 miles to Mongolia in the summer of 2021.
Long story short, Covid really wrecked those plans. The rally was canceled that year.

On to our next and final plan… The Honda Monkey Bikes. Four of us got ourselves a 125cc Honda Monkey and Cody got himself a 1970s CT90.

We planned to ride down the Pan-American Highway, starting from North Dakota.

The Disorderly Drifters Group Journey

Some of us planned to continue this journey longer than others, while some of us had other life adventure plans. Travis and I plan to continue exploring the world even beyond this journey.

Our goal is to experience 100 countries in the next five years.

Cody rode with us the entire way from North Dakota to Mexico on a 41-year-old CT90! Absolutely nuts! Colter and Austy rode with us from North Dakota to Panama!

The four of us also completed a 1,000-mile ride in less than 24 hours for our Iron Butt Association certification! INSANE!

We had a blast with all of these crazy assholes. And then, the time came for each of them to go on their own life adventures.

About Us: Travis and Courtney | The Disorderly Drifters

The Disorderly Drifters- Courtney and Travis

Travis and I are both from small towns in North Dakota (Medora and Belfield, respectively).

Travis worked in the oil field as a carpenter, and I was the General Manager of two restaurants.

The Point of Our Disorderly Drifters Blog

Travis and I knew almost nothing about motorcycles before we left for this journey. Actually, everything we know now, we learned from our friends at the beginning of the trip.

And everything else we have had to learn by trial and error along the way!

We saved up money, quit our jobs, and sold literally everything we owned. When our bikes and papers were ready, we hopped on, twisted the throttle, and hit the open road.

We want to help people everywhere that have a love for travel and want to get out and see the world. Whether that means quitting your job to travel full-time or just taking some time to go on an adventure.

We are here to inspire, give first-hand knowledge of the ins and outs of traveling through Mexico and Central America by motorcycle, backpacking through Asia, and driving a Tuk-Tuk through India.

Among many other disorderly adventures.

And, of course, laugh about the ups and downs along the way.

Learning Through Experiences and (Mis)Adventures

We have now ridden over 10,000 miles through 9 countries along the Pan-American highway. We started from North Dakota and rode through the lower half of the United States.

Afterward, we spent three months riding around and exploring Mexico. And another three months through Central America.

We also completed an Iron Butt Association Saddle Sore challenge, riding over 1,000 miles in under 24 hours on our little 125cc Honda Monkey Bikes!

We are here to share some of the knowledge we gain along the way through our stories.

  • We have navigated through 8 land border crossings on motorcycles. We learned how to legally import our motorcycles. As well as researching and learning how to deal with post-pandemic requirements in each country.

  • We learned how to communicate in each country by learning the language to find places to stay and food to eat, as well as shops and welders for our motorcycles.

  • Learned important travel tips and tricks we picked up along the way through trial and error. Listened to travelers’ and locals’ suggestions including what to pack, what and where to eat, things to watch out for, unique destinations to discover, and fun things to do.

  • Experienced how to prepare for an Iron Butt Saddlesore 1,000-mile ride and how to complete it in less than 24 hours… on a 125cc Motorcycle!

  • Experienced the unique cultures of each Central American country and communicated with locals and, as a result, found some amazing hidden gems off the beaten path.

And so much more through our Disorderly Drifters adventures that we can’t wait to share with you!
